SECOND PROJECT

Imagen
Hello guys! We have begun with the second project, which deals with voacbulary. To do this activity, our group must do three vocabulary exercises. One of them is to create a concept-map; another is to make at least 20 flashcards; and finally to create an interactive poster. In the fisrt class dedicated to the project, we focused on doing a brainstrom to find a suitable topic.  In the end, we all agree on choosing the topic of SPACE.  The reason why we chose this was simple: Space is vast. And although everyone has an overall idea of what can be found out there, there are lots of interesting things that we ignore... (and some of them could kill us, but don't panic). We believe that this is a catchy theme, in fact, we were astonished by some of the new things that we discovered.   Do you want to discover the universe with us?

GAME DAY 2 -20/02

Imagen
After becoming familiar with the new acquired vocabulary fun had just begun! The first game consisted of a Kahoot about "sight" where a member of each group had to form the correct name of the picture that had just appeared. We knew all the answers but we were not fast enough to get to the podium L We did not lose the hope of winning and we focused on the next game, this time was the turn of our colleague Camila who blindfolded had to guess by the ear which sound was being produced. It seems that it was not our day as again we did not win but Cami did a great job!   After this, one person from each group had to become a kind of "spy" to make sure that during the next game no one cheated 👀 The spies were the ones who carry out the following two games.  Consisting the first one in giving to a person of each group (blindfolded again) different bottles with some "curious" smells and the "blind" person had to try ...

GAME DAY I -20/02

Thursday was a speacial day... Instead of a theory class we played several games by which we learned vocabulary related to the five senses (hearing, touch, smell, taste and sight). First of all, we were given a handful of words related to the five senses, as you can see below. All these words were mixed, and we did not know the meaning of some of them, therefore, we had to check them in the dictionary. Once we were conscious of all the meanings, the task was to classify them into the 5 senses... Eventually, after some discussion, this was the result:  Finally, we were given more words, related with good and bad taste, texture and flavours. The result was that we leant new useful vocabulary, and since we did a new activiy, more dynamic than usual, we had great fun.  Nevertheless, the class was not just this... pay attention to what's coming next!!

THE OSCARS

Here we have a little part of the Oscars, in which The Eight Wonder was awarded with the Oscar to the best production design. In this short clip we can see two of our memebers, Natalia and Sara, who are collecting the prize... you look awesome girls!

INFOGRAPHIC

In this project the ones presenting were Noelia and Natalia. The rest of us were listening to our classmates, which were explaining their methods. As a general opinion, the methods that we liked most were the Total Physical Response method and the Suggestopedia method. From our perspective, these methods were the most effective, nevertheless, every  method has flaws.   Not only the methods, but the people presenting were great. This is an issue that matters, since they made us understand perfectly how the methods work.  There are some other things that should be highlighted; for example, the exercices. Group nº1 ( Communicative Language Teaching) presented a dynamic exercise, which consisted on performing a scene on the dentist. As you can see below, that was fun...  Finally, concerning the votation, we were glad to discover that our design was the most liked. We tried to make the infographic very visual, including as less sentences as possible. ...

FIRST PROJECT

Imagen
Last sessions of Applied Linguistics were dedicated to making the first project of the course.  This first project consists on making an infographic. The class was divided in groups, and each group was given a topic.  As you can see in the previous entry, our topic is Content- Based Learning. We have to admit that, at first, we didn't know anything about this method. However, as we investigated, we realized that it is a method that we all have experienced.  We all agreed on dividing the tasks so that every part of the project advanced equally. Therefore, one of us is responsible on searching information in reliable sources; another one is in charge of thinking about the appropiate examples and exercices to show how the method works; then another team member takes charge of doing the infographic; another one is responsible of making a draft of what is going to be explained appart from the infographic; and finally, the member left has to check the possible mist...

WORK IN PROGRESS...

Now that we have our topic for the first project, we can start working.
